Essential Christmas Tree Care Instructions in Missouri

A real Christmas tree is more than just holiday décor—it's a renewable resource that benefits the environment year-round. During its growing years, a tree helps clean the air, produce oxygen, prevent soil erosion, and provide a home for wildlife.
To keep your tree looking fresh, vibrant, and safe throughout the season, proper care is key. That's why at Spring Branch Acres LLC, we're proud to offer simple, easy-to-follow Christmas tree care instructions in Missouri—helping your tree, and your holiday memories, last all season long.
And to ensure these benefits continue for years to come, we plant three seedlings for every tree sold, keeping our land healthy and our Christmas traditions thriving.

Care and Safety Guidelines

Watering and Setup

  • Use a sturdy tree stand that holds at least 1 gallon of water for maximum beauty and safety.
  • Before placing the tree in the stand, cut at least ¼ inch off the base to remove sap and allow proper water absorption.
  • Refill the stand daily and never allow the water level to drop below the bottom of the trunk, or a new sap plug will form.
  • If a sap plug forms, add hot tap water to soften the sap and restore water absorption.
  • A fresh tree may use up to a gallon of water in the first 24 hours after it is cut. Water usage will slow after the first day—check levels daily.

Placement and Storage

  • Store trees upright until placed in a stand.
  • Position the tree away from fireplaces, radiators, vents, and other heat sources that may cause drying.

Fire Safety Facts

  • Christmas trees cannot cause fires on their own. They are never a source of heat and can only serve as a fuel when exposed to an external ignition source, much like a wastebasket filled with paper, a cloth sofa, or a flannel shirt.
  • A fresh Christmas tree with adequate moisture will not support a flame.
  • Real Christmas trees are involved in less than one-tenth of one percent of residential fires, and only when ignited by an outside heat source.

Real vs. Artificial Trees

  • Approximately 85% of artificial trees in the US are imported from China.
  • Real Christmas trees take an average of 7–10 years to mature.
  • 98% of Christmas trees are grown on farms.
  • 100,000 people are employed in the Christmas tree industry.
  • Real trees can be recycled or planted after the season.
  • Artificial trees contribute to landfill waste and remain there for many years.

Why Choose a Real Tree?

  • Cutting a real Christmas tree creates lasting family memories and traditions.
